about megan...

I’m Megan! I’m married to the love of my life, Mitch and we have a precious baby boy, Maximilian. Together, we own Vaughan House. While we primarily focus on providing photography and videography as a husband and wife team, there are a few other little side businesses we have going! I’ve been shooting weddings for 9 years but started off taking pictures of bugs and flowers (we all have to start somewhere!)

I’m inspired by my couples and the chemistry between them. I’m inspired by the uniqueness of who they are and how they interact with each other. Mix that in with their surroundings and how I see that through my lens, you’ve got the makings of some awesome images!

what she offers prospective couples...

We offer wedding photography and videography, as well as engagements, bridals, and boudoirs. And after that, maternity and family sessions! Basically any type of session you could want!

on her dream clients...

The MVP Bride & Groom are joyful, happy and passionate people. They don’t sweat the small stuff, trust me explicitly with covering their wedding day and of course, they’re in love with my work!

 on her shooting style...

My favorite thing in the world is when I become friends with my brides. There is nothing quite like photographing your friends' weddings. They are not just another wedding to me. They’re a friendship and a part of MY story as well. I truly want to get to know them as a couple, learn about their story, how they met, the proposal, what makes them happy, what their favorite things are. When I learn these things, I can capture the essence of the two of them in my images and give them something priceless.

My editing style is rich with bold color, golden light, warmth and crispness.

I shoot all digital. You’ll hear me say oh my gosh, I’m dying and YASSSSS a lot! I get very excited behind the camera!

megan's advice for the newly engaged...

I always urge my brides to go with what they love, not with what Pinterest or other people are telling them! You don’t have to do the traditional things if you don’t want to… or you can! It’s your wedding day. Do what YOU want!

on the importance of wedding photos...

The flowers die, the food gets eaten, the guests leave and your dress ends up in the back of your closet somewhere. The only thing you have left from your wedding day are your blurry memories. Choosing the person that’s going to give it all back to you is priceless. Your photographer is the person that helps you relive the way you felt that day, that gives back everything from the tiny details to the epic moments. The photographer, the one person charged with the safe-keeping of the memories from the best day of your life, is someone you don’t want to skimp on. Wedding photographers are so much more than photographers on that day. They know the ins and outs of a wedding. They excel and specialize in weddings. They eat, live, breathe and sleep weddings (or at least I do!) Don’t you want someone like that in charge of documenting your day?

on photography vs. videography...

Wedding videography is typically added on as an afterthought. The number one regret I hear brides say is that they wish they had gotten video as well. Pictures are still memories. Video moves. It’s your entire day literally given back to you.

I urge brides to hire a videographer, even if it isn’t my husband! (Of course, I hope it is my husband. You just can’t beat a husband and wife photo/video team!) We work together flawlessly, and we each respect the job of the other on the wedding day. Together, we can create still and moving memories for generations to come. Our goal is to have 20 Vaughan House Weddings booked each year, and we’re almost to our goal for 2018!

advice for the bride on a budget...

It wasn't that long ago that I was in the ‘bride’ shoes, planning my own wedding. The whole process can be very overwhelming! You're keeping your budget in mind, but you also want really beautiful photographs. I TOTALLY get it. The photographer is one of the most important people at your wedding. It's also a huge investment. I always encourage my brides to not only consider the budget and my work, but also the connection they feel with me. If you don't feel that, we may not be a good match for each other, and that's totally okay! Your photographs will be that much more beautiful if you feel at ease and comfortable with who is behind the camera.

When it comes photography, those memories are priceless. If you find a photographer that you absolutely LOVE, scale back on other areas so you can have that person photograph your wedding. You’ll spend all your money on every detail of your wedding, but if you don’t have a quality wedding photographer, it’ll all be for naught.

on how to feel at home behind the camera...

I know my couples aren’t professional models so as far as the ‘where do I put my hands’ question goes, I’ve got that totally covered! I also know that most people typically don’t spend their time in front of the camera and it can be nerve-wracking! My couples have so much fun during their engagement session. We talk, we laugh, we tell stories. We get to know each other on a different level and in that time, we take beautiful images to document this special chapter in their lives!

megan's final pearl of wisdom...

The experience you receive and the quality of your wedding images is definitely ‘you get what you pay for.’ It’s the best day of your life. Don’t skimp!
